THE RI FILM TAX
CREDIT PROGRAM NEEDS YOU!
On Wednesday, March
13, 2008, about 150 concerned people attended an important hearing before
Senate Finance Chairman Stephen D. Alves and the Senate Finance
Committee. The proposed legislation was intended to put a $10 million cap
on film credits per year. Information from other states show that imposed
caps drive away productions by creating uncertainty. The studios and
networks shy away from "cap" locations and choose other states for
their film and television productions.
The turn-out was
excellent; however, the proposed $10 million cap is still alive!
We are providing
this information to you as a member of our state's film workforce. If you
oppose establishing a cap on future film credits for the effect it might have
on your livelihood, then please send a letter and/or make a phone call to your
own district Senator and Representative to inform them how you feel about the
proposed legislation.
This is extremely
important. Let your voices be heard!
