INFINITELY POLAR BEAR
FILMING IN RHODE ISLAND

The Rhode Island Film & TV Office is pleased to announce the independent feature film, INFINITELY POLAR BEAR, has commenced principal photography in Rhode Island.

Starring a popular, award-winning cast led by Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers, The Kids Are All Right) and Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Avatar), the quirky drama is set in 1978 and focuses on a bi-polar father trying to take care of his two young daughters while his wife tries to get her MBA. Amidst wild mood swings and unique challenges, the four of them manage to figure out a new and unconventional way to be a family.

INFINITELY POLAR BEAR was written and is being directed by Maya Forbes (Monsters vs Aliens, Diary of a Wimpy Kid). Paper Street Films (Detachment, Happythankyoumoreplease), Park Pictures (Robot and Frank) and Bad Robot (Star Trek, Super 8) are producing.

Shooting will occur for approximately six weeks in and around Providence.

Richard Licht, Director of the Department of Administration stated, “We are excited to bring another top notch production to Rhode Island. With our unique locations in close proximity and an organized talent pool of local artists and professional technicians, Rhode Island is the perfect place to make a successful movie. We are also pleased that many small businesses are being impacted by the film, and that kind of positive energy will keep our economy moving forward in the right direction.”

Steven Feinberg, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, said, “Due to the leadership of the Governor and General Assembly, we are delighted to be able to host INFINITELY POLAR BEAR in our beautiful Ocean State. I was completely charmed by the heart-warming, cleverly written script and am certain Rhode Island will provide the perfect visual backdrop for this special tale. We look forward to helping Maya and her highly talented team of professionals maximize their potential while promoting the best of Rhode Island.”

Director Maya Forbes added, “We are thrilled to be shooting in Rhode Island.  From the people to the locations to the food, we are having an amazing experience.  We've got big love for Little Rhody!"

House Speaker Gordon D. Fox commented, “I am excited to continue to promote the arts and filmmaking as a thriving industry in Rhode Island. Our state provides a beautiful backdrop for major motion pictures like the Academy Award-nominated Moonrise Kingdom.  This industry has proven to be an economic catalyst for the talented artists and the hard-working crew members, some of whom are based in Rhode Island and others who visit and fall in love with our state."

Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed said, "The Senate is pleased to welcome another production to our state. This project will provide direct jobs to the talented film industry professionals based in our state, indirect jobs to area small businesses, and tremendous exposure to the charm and diversity which make our state such an attractive setting to filmmakers and visitors alike."

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras added, “I am pleased to welcome the cast and crew of INFINITELY POLAR BEAR to Providence.  Our City is not only a beautiful and historic setting for filmmaking, but also offers world-class restaurants and attractions for the crew to enjoy during their time in Rhode Island’s capital.”

The Rhode Island Film & TV Office is a government agency under the umbrella of the State of Rhode Island Department of Administration.
